Ocean Voices

With Halsey Burgund, musician, sound artist, and member of the the band aesthetic evidence; and Patrick Ramage, Global Whale Program director, International Fund for Animal Welfare (6:00 p.m. performance only). Introductory remarks by Wallace J. Nichols, Ph.D., marine biologist.

Oceanic issues are rife with nuance, filled with emotion, and broad enough to affect all life on this planet. Musician and sound artist Halsey Burgund has collected audio recordings from people around the world as they reflect about the ocean. In collaboration with marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols, Burgund has used these stories — including visitor reflections recorded at the Museum of Science — to create Ocean Voices, which premiered at the California Academy of Sciences in June.

Interwoven with live music by Burgund and his band, aesthetic evidence, and video footage of underwater scenes, these audio recordings create an inspired and inspiring performance that represents a collective human response to the ocean. Audience Q&A follows the performance.

This performance is a co-presentation of the Museum of Science and Artists in Context.
